ALL CONTRACTORS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL

Hiring a contractor is not an easy task. You’ve all heard the stories...they don’t show up, they don’t return calls, they say they can do the work but end up letting you down...the list goes on and on. Read on...

WHERE ARE THE GOOD CONTRACTORS HIDING?

You can find them in the Yellow Pages, local papers or local online services such as “Craigslist” with no credible way, desire or need to judge the contractors on their pages. Hence, they are of little value except to help you develop a list. To make finding a contractor worst, most good contractors don’t advertise. They rely on word of mouth from previous customers. Therefore one of the best methods of finding a contractor is from someone you trust, fellow workers, your hairdresser or neighbor who may have recently completed a project. Read on...

DO YOU REALLY KNOW YOUR REMODELING CONTRACTOR?

For the first time since 1989 we are in a recession. Money is tight, new home building has all but stopped. This has sparked new home contractors and other specialty contractors to become remodelers. Can new home contractors be good remodelers?

The answer is simple. Not all new home builders make good remodelers and not all remodelers make good new home builders. All contractors need to be licensed and insured in the state that they work. The license for a new home builder is the same as a remodeler. There is no distinction between the license for a new home builder or a remodeler. The difference is in the years of experience in the field that they worked. There are many so-called "professionals" who call themselves contractors or remodelers, but who really don't operate with the professional knowledge, experience or ethics required to protect you, the homeowner from unnecessary risks. And all too often they can't deliver the quality work which results in homeowner satisfaction.
